Friday, April 20th - Albufeira / Lisboa / Praia da Oura

Up at 8:00 a.m. and into the car by 9. Merv and I drove into Lisboa to drop the car off at the airport in 3 hours flat (300 km). Found our way right there with no problems (drove exactly 3000 km during the last 11 days). The countryside from the Algarve to Lisboa is hilly from the coast, then fairly flat and open with farming and livestock. Glad we spent a lot of time in the north while driving, as it was much more interesting. Caught a cab to the bus terminal by our old Miraparque Hotel, bought two tickets, then down to O Cardos for lunch. After lunch we settled onto the bus (a new double-level job) at 3:15 p.m. and arrived back to our hotel at Praira da Oura by 8:00 p.m.

Lee and Carole were in contact with Latin Tours in Faro early in the day and after a lot of negotiation, got them to put us into individual suites at the price we paid from Edmonton at $31.00 Cdn. a night (quite a difference from the $145.00 Cdn. we had to pay for last night). Nice one bedroom suites with kitchens, etc., overlooking the pool, which we were informed, is topless. Our bad luck, eh! Have to check it out tomorrow. Everyone speaks English in the Algarve and the Club we are staying at is modern with all amenities. We're on the beach, have private balconies and don't have to drive anywhere. Wind died down in the evening. Spent a quiet evening reading, then off bed by 11 p.m. Heard it was storming here for the last two weeks and the sun only came out in the previous 3 days.
