Tuesday, May 1st - Frankfurt / Edmonton

Last day, sad day. Up at 8:30 a.m. for great buffet breakfast, the kind we're used to. Bacon and eggs, sausage and lots of coffee; as much as we wanted. The mini-bus arrived to take Merv and Carole downtown for their tour and the driver agreed to drop Lee and I off. Suspiciously, traffic was light and the downtown streets were virtually deserted.

It appears we arrived in Frankfurt on May 01st, May Day, which is a worldwide holiday (except in Canada) we pointed out. Worked our way through downtown and found the train station, which dominates the area.

Carole and Merv were still on their bus tour, so we took a train back to our hotel to meet them by 1:00 p.m. Screwed up and overshot our hotel by a bit. Had to take a taxi the short distance back.

Reunited, we were told the largest shopping mall in Germany was two blocks away. However, it was closed for May Day so another taxi out to the airport. Checked in and did some last minute shopping for essentials at duty free. We boarded our flight at 4:00 p.m. and 8 hours home.

P.S. - We arrived home at 7:00 p.m. on May 01st and I caught a plane to Tucson, Arizona at 7:00 a.m. the next day May 2nd for a five day conference.
